BRIDGE WILDLIFE

Stand on the Bridge most days and you’ll see ducks and geese floating underneath or flying overhead. On a smaller scale, a variety of lizards make their home on the Bridge, along with lady bugs, grasshoppers, caterpillars and butterflies, native bees, praying mantises and frogs, including a bull frog that lives in The Secret Garden. Bluebirds and other feathered friends nest in our birdhouses every spring, while a couple of Canada geese, whom we’ve named Gertrude and Milo, return in May every year. In 2021, Gertrude laid five eggs, only one of which hatched, and we named her Rosebud. After only a day, she was off and into the water with her parents. They stopped by the bridge several times this spring but opted not to nest on it. We were disappointed. Maybe next year!
