ACTIVITES FOR CHILDREN

Children will find a variety of activities and fun things to do and experience in the Bridge gardens, starting with interactive games, posters, a bird identification board, and stories of birds, bees and butterflies in the Educational Kiosk. They’ll also love discovering the many fun places to sit – benches of different woods and designs, a chair hidden in a tree, a bench tucked into an arbor and benches in the River’s Edge Dog Garden where they can sit with their furry friends and check out sticks from the Stick Library.

Kids love Scavenger Hunts, so we’ve created some based on plants, animals and features in the gardens just for them. Adults like them, too! Can you find 15 butterflies? Hunt for Bunnies on the Bridge! Find the Fairy Gardens tucked inside garden spaces.

Everything in Peter Rabbit and Mr. McGregor’s Garden is designed for children – kid-sized stump seats for a game of Tic Tac Toe, a hopscotch path, a garden to see roots growing, a Please Touch the Plants bed and a working vegetable garden complete with Peter Rabbit. There’s even a potting table!

Children who love the classic book, A Secret Garden, are thrilled to discover our shrub-enclosed Secret Garden, with a miniature table and chairs where they can sit. Our Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Mural brings back memories of the story of Snow White. Take a picture of the mural, and your reflection will show in your photos.

There are eight water features in the gardens including a bear fountain, tranquility fountain, lion’s head fountain, waterfall and even a quirky red bathtub garden where fairies float and tadpoles grow. Can you find them all? Children go home with ideas for adding features in their own gardens and understand the importance of providing these water spots for wildlife.

Mr. McGregor Says: “Come Plant Seeds”

Hey, kids, listen up! Want to have some fun in my garden? Stop by the seed planting table whenever my volunteer gardeners are there and learn how to plant seeds. It’s easy, and once you know how, you can plant flowers and vegetables in your own garden. My volunteer gardeners are always working on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
